Realtime creation and presentation tools for dynamic photo-realistic representation of 3D models

Whilst the Rendering module is exclusively designed to create digital static photos, the Realtime Rendering Module can additionally be used for live presentations and design reviews. Any CAD data can be dynamically manipulated without losing the photo-realistic appearance.
When Realtime Rendering is combined with other ICEM Surf modules, the unique capability of Reality Modelling becomes available. This is where the user is able to perform all modification, analyses and dynamic form changes on the model, keeping the photo-realistic appearance at all times, giving the user, within one software environment, the hitherto unobtainable Reality Modelling experience.
The basic version of ICEM Surf (ICEM Surf Professional) already offers powerful dynamic display variants, which together with the modelling functionalities, enable the user to create surface models of the highest quality. It is obvious though, that these are computer images. The breakthrough technology that is the ICEM Surf Realtime Rendering module, however, makes the computer image appear realistic – it can literally look like a real model filmed on a video camera.

Features

  • Material: From the integrated library the user selects the appropriate materials. Colour, shine, reflection, transparency and texture are predefined, but may be varied. Bump Map display mode can be activated in in  realtime mode, which allows an even more realistic representation of surfaces with 3D structures like leather or wood.
  • Tessellation: individual tessellation tolerances (display quality) can be assigned to Surface and curve Objects which will improve the realtime dynamic performance.
  • Environment: The library offers a selection of room environments that each consist of 6 images. Cylindrical rooms (3 images) or spherical rooms (one image) are possible in addition. You can also create and save your own rooms by importing TIFF-pictures or HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.
  • Highlights and Hidden Lines: Highlight-, reflection line- and hidden line  effect may also be added to enhance the display of virtual objects.
  • Light: The light types of beam, spot, ambient and point-light are available. Position, colour and brightness are infinitely adjustable. Changes are instantly visible. The user has the choice to use in addition or purely the environment lighting effect ( in most cases HDR Images are used for this). Changes of lights become visible in real time.
  • HDR-Images: Through the adoption of High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) images, which contain very high brightness data, even more realistic renderings can be generated.
  • Shadows: The shadows generated by light sources also change dynamically. Shadows can be defined as just hard or with varying levels of softness.
  • Depth of light: With this option a blur of a camera lens beyond its focus point can be simulated. The more far away objects are from the focus point, the more blurred they are displayed.
  • Reflection: The environment, or a specially selected image, is reflected into the model (for example on the car body). The model reflects in the floor and/or in the walls of the room as well.
  • Anti Aliasing: With Anti Aliasing a very high display quality can be achieved and alias-effects can be avoided.
  • Stereo-Mode: With the appropriate hardware (i.e. big-screen projector and glasses) you can use the stereo function to give your presentation a 3D-depth perception.
  • Animation-Mode:  As well as the interactive presentation options, (changing the camera position or the light source with the mouse), video like animations can be produced within ICEM Surf by just selecting different views of the object. The System then calculates smooth transitions between the different views. The animations can be reviewed in different modes like loop or swing. All calculated Images may be exported in Tiff format to the hard disc for generating video files.  Another animation feature is the Turntable function. Here the object is turned around the z-axis while the environment stays unchanged.
  • Digital Mock Up (DMU): The Reference Manager from the ICEM Surf Professional module enables you to visualize, or define multiple configurations of large amounts of all types of 3D data, without storing it in the current database. Dynamic multiple clipping planes also make it possible to look at cuts through complex structures, useful for visual and collision analysis, and to place sections there for future reference.

Benefits

  • Designers and Engineers are now able to perform highly photo-realistic 3D-presentations, without the need for expensive third-party software.
  • Decision maker and manager have now the opportunity to check the design directly on the virtual model.
  • Easy to use with very little training requirements.
  • Photo-realistic images are produced quicker because the various visual settings change dynamically, for instant feedback. No need to wait for slow batch rendering processes.
  • The original surface data is being used. So no time-consuming conversion to facets is needed.
  • Instant modifications to object surfaces are possible within realtime render mode.
  • Large amounts of data or very complex models can be quickly and easily displayed.
  • High resolution posters, presectioned for plotting, can be easily produced.
