How does DDN compare with AutoCAD and other CAD systems?

ICEM DDN offers the full range of integrated modeling techniques with exceptionally high performance when working with large, complex drawings or assemblies. A comprehensive set of customization tools makes it easy to adapt the system to any environment and any set of needs. The system is a mature, stable program that represents an investment of nearly 20 years of development experience. Because of the modular nature of the software, you purchase only the precise functionality that you need.

On which hardware platforms is ICEM DDN available

ANSWER:

ICEM DDN is available on Silicon Graphics (SGI) and Intel-based workstations.

Does ICEM DDN support CAM output?

ANSWER:

ICEM DDN offers several powerful, well-integrated NC modules that support 2 through 5 axis machining operations. In addition, ICEM DDN can be used with ICEM PowerMILL for machining complex shapes. ICEM PowerMILL includes both roughing and finishing modules that optimize the CNC process while simultaneously maintaining the highest quality surface finish possible. The milling process can be simulated for optical verification using ICEM ViewMILL.

Can I use ICEM DDN along with other CAD design tools?

ANSWER:

Yes, ICEM DDN supports IGES, VDAFS, and DXF input and output as well as direct translators to and from CATIA and CADDS. Because the ICEM DDN Hybrid Solid Modeler is based on ACIS, you can exchange the Solids data with any other ACIS-based system. For Rapid Prototyping the Stereo Lithography (STL) data can be generated. A STEP processor is under development. You can use ICEM DDN at any step in your development process.

Can I use ICEM DDN along with Office applications and Desktop Publishing tools?

ANSWER:

Yes, ICEM DDN supports PostScript, DXF and TIFF image input and output as a means of sharing data with Windows applications. You can also reference or embed CAD data in any Microsoft Windows application that supports OLE 2.0 or later (Object Linking and Embedding).
