ICEM DDN Version 5.1 Released

The following sections briefly describe the most relevant changes andenhancements in ICEM DDN 5.0 (2001211).
For adetailed description please refer to Chapter 4 of the "User ReleaseBulletin".

4.1 HP Platform

The HP platform has been added to the release, this includes ASM roughing (Delcam), tool tips, scan and
plotting along with the standard supporting executables (translators etc).

4.2 NC / ASM

4.2.1 Miscellaneous
  • Increase the path length for scan executables from 60 to 256 characters.
  • Make ASM roughing and finishing esf/stk file input the same as scan by entering file names
  • Instead of directly going to the browser.
  • Increase scratch array sizes to allow for larger parts in scan and ASM roughing/finishing
  • Increase maximum tolerance to .005 in/.127 mm for chain select.
4.2.2 ASM Finishing: New Lace Steps
  1.  Lace Step with a vertical arc.
The system creates a circular tool motion, perpendicular to the XY plane, between the end and the
beginning of two zig-zag cuts. The minimum distance of the circular step from a facet model is the
clearance distance specified in the Global Parameters menu.
  2. High Speed Lace Step (3-Arcs).
The feature allows you to generate a toolpath for the high speed milling machines. The high speed lace
step is a circular tool motion consisting of 3 arcs between the end and the beginning of two zig-zag cuts.
4.2.3 ASM Finishing and ASM Roughing: Reducing of Cutting of Feed

The cutting feed can be reduced to 50% for the first cut of a toolpath.

4.2.4 ASM Finishing and NC-Pocket:
Display Memory Size for an external (.stl/.esf) Facet Model

The system displays the size of memory needed for an external facet model when the memory request is
greater than 256 MB. With respect to the main memory size of your machine, you can continue the
milling operation or you can use a segmentation method for milling of very large facet models in ASM.

4.2.5 ASM Finishing: Milling of very large Facet Models

The feature allows milling of very large facet models created from external files .esf/.stl by using a
segmentation method of a model to avoid the memory overflow on your machine.

4.2.6 ASM Finishing: Mode 'AT' and Mode 'RM' for a Boundary
  1. The mode 'AT' allows the tangential cutting of a model shape at a selected boundary curve.
  2. The special mode 'RM' is introduced for a tangential cutting at a selected rest material boundary curve.
(See F.17.15.6.2.2*options*7 Rest Material & Step.)
4.2.7 ASM Finishing: Mode 'AT' and Mode 'RM' for Islands
  1. The mode 'AT' allows the tangential cutting of a model shape at selected islands.
  2. The special mode 'RM' is introduced for tangential cutting at the selected rest material island
